His and hers

Well, last month, my mom really wanted to buy a watch. So, lagi namin sya sinasamaha maghanap. Tapos, she said na she also wanted to buy one for my dad. So sabi namin yung partners nalang yung bilin nya. So we looked. Then, napansin ko lang na yung watch na for men is bigger than the one for women. his and hers daw tawag dun, sabi ng brother ko. so i asked, wala namang nakasagot sa kanila.

Tapos habang pauwi, pinagusapan naman namin yung mga gusto naming cars. My kuya said, mostly, SUV's like pajero, patrol, etc. Eh ako din, yun ang gusto ko. Then my brother said, "hindi bagay sayo yun, pang hando jazz lang kayong mga girls." My mom and my sister agreed because, well, they like honda jazz. I disagreed, syempre, kasi ayoko nun. Its too small eh. sabi nila, yun daw yung for girls. Girly cars, as they call it.

So, bakit kaya ganun? Does the size dictate for whom it'll be? His or hers? Siguro baka ganun kasi gender biased pa nga talaga ang society. The bigger stuff is for men because they're more powerful, and the small version is for women, because we're only loke, theire subordinates.

Maximo Oliveros and Eating-out

I love the title. And I love the English version even more: The Blossoming of Maximo Oliveros. This movie has everything going for it: a talented cast, great cinematography and direction, and most importantly, a heartfelt, poignant story of a young boy. Or girl.
I particularly liked how Maximo’s family was supportive of his choice of gender. I always say that the support one needs always comes from the family. With that, the person can gather the strength he needs to face the whole world.
eating-out, on the other hand, is really about homosexuals.
The difference? hmmm.. sa maximo oliveros, parang hindi "required" yung part na naging homosexual sya. Parang, the story can still go on even if Maximo is straight. On the other hand, sa eating out, yun talaga yung story. About homosexuals talaga. Yung kung pano yung relationships, mga ganun.
In both films, I particularly liked how their (maximo and the straight guy in eating out) family was supportive of his choice of gender. I always say that the support one needs always comes from the family. With that, the person can gather the strength he needs to face the whole world.

Erotica and Porn

Honestly, i really dunno the difference. I don't even know na there's a thing such as erotica. I only heard it sa class. Pero, from what i understood sa class is that the difference lies in the story. Parang, yung porn, for arousal lang talaga. The stuff people look at the internet. Something like that. Erotica, on the other hand, has a story. For example, sex and the city. Its not purely about sex. I mean, there's a plot. And the sexual parts are just, well, part of the plot.

So, people may have different qualifications in classifying whether it is erotics or porn. For some "conservative" people, sex and the city may be porn already, and for some "liberated" people, the stuff they download on the internet is just erotica. I mean, individual differences. (yeah, psych eh. haha).

So, quote ko lang yung nabasa ko sa internet. I forgot yung site eh. Pinabasa lang sakin ng brother ko cause i asked his opinion about this topic. So, here it is:
“If porn is work that serves no purpose other than causing sexual arousal, then erotica is usually explicit material that has artistic merit beyond its ability to arouse. Erotica, for that matter need not even arouse. Somtimes the sex in an erotic story makes us laugh or cringe or cry. Where porn depends on its ability to inspire a physical response, erotica has something broader to say about human beings as sexual creatures whether it gets us off or not…"

Gender-biased Language

This may seem like a shallow or petty thing to complain about but really, it’s annoying how everything’s considered a “he” until stated otherwise. As they say, the male gender is the generic or baseline or whatever gender that’s why it’s always a he. But I really don’t see it being much of a hassle if one puts a “s/he” instead. Some people may say it’s all the same and it doesn’t really matter but I say otherwise.

I mean, maybe for them, its okay, especially for guys. Na maybe they don't care kasi hindi naman sila yung parang "nadidiscriminate" eh. Pero wala lang.. nakakoffend. Especially nowadays when people are starting to be more liberated. Yung tipong hindi na ganun ka "traditional".

People really should be sensitive about this thing. Kahit parang ang liit na bagay lang nito. Sa iba, big deal. Kaya i make it a point na whenever i write essays, of papers, he/she talaga yung nilalagay ko. Unless i'm sure of the sex of the subject. :-)
